This post is about drawing eyes and stocking up my shop.
When I found myself in the situation where I no longer aligned with the platform I used to sell my prints through, (a platform where everything was printed and shipped for me, a platform I had a lot of my artwork stolen from, a platform that eventually got overrun with AI “art”, a platform where they began to lessen the commission price for its artists, a platform that would eventually ask its users to pay a monthly fee) I found myself not knowing where to begin. Doing a complete factory reset, I decided there was only one place to start – eyes.

It has been my thing to draw eyes since I was in high school, even my AP Art final was themed around eyes. I wish I could give you some deep reason as to why but, I’m not sure there is one. Of course the eyes are the windows to the soul, everyone’s irises are unique, they hold so much emotion, and sight is my favorite of the five senses but, I think the reason I draw them so much is just because I like to. Put a pen in my hand and ask me to draw something, its going to be an eye.

My first shop update will include framed Lover’s Eye originals and matted gold leaf giclée prints. Everything will be limited run and very DIY, all produced in house (my drafty spare bedroom). The plan is to sell prints and release a new series of Lover’s Eye originals, or originals I feel comfortable parting with, on a regular basis. Maybe you would like to commission me to do a drawing of your actual lover’s eye? Just an idea that I think would be cool and romantic and I would love to do. (Who am I kidding? If you’re here reading my blog you probably don’t have a lover. JK, I love you.)
As far as platforms go, while I just created this website, I am thinking I will be going with Etsy to sell on. While Etsy has its own problems with drop shippers, art theft, and fees, I still think it is a good platform for others to find me. I am still a small fish and could really use some new eyes on my work. (I also have some experience selling on there, real ones know my other shop.)
Perhaps I should think of this as a software update rather than a factory rest. Nin version 4.25 loading… (Nin is my self appointed nickname from when I was a baby, for those who weren’t privy)
DIY or DIE
